Taste of Japan!!
Funded May 4, 2023I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for your generous donation. Your contribution has had a significant impact on my Japanese studies classes, allowing us to delve deeper into Japanese food culture and its integral role in Japanese history, traditions, and society.
For instance, we were able to explore the fascinating world of Japanese cuisine. We discussed how soybeans and fermentation play a profound role in our culture and how they are intertwined with our culinary heritage, especially when creating dishes like "Tofu and Broccoli." Your donation made it possible for us to have valuable conversations about these culinary traditions.
Our Onigiri experience was another highlight. We delved into the origins of "Onigiri," Japanese rice balls, and how they have become a beloved "Japanese Soul Food." By using salt and fermented or pickled ingredients, Onigiri has become the perfect, long-lasting snack for travelers and anyone on the go.
In fact, we even extended this experience beyond our classroom by hosting the HSES Cultural Days event, which attracted students interested in diverse cultures and cuisines. Each student had the opportunity to craft their own Onigiri balls, and it was a tremendous success.
