Chillville Calm Room

Thank you so much for making this project possible for my exceptional learners. We received our project materials towards the end of May. At this time, I was packing up my classroom for summer break. Upon returning after summer break, I was able to fully open packages and get calm areas setup for exploring during the first week of the school year (23-24). When my students entered Chillville Calm Room on July 31st they were in awe of the new calm spots and sensory items within them. They were excited to know that so many people supported them and helped fund our project.

When we are working in the Chillvile Calm Room my students are able to confidently work independently on assignments with no interruptions using their over the ear headphones. When I have students who need to come to Chillville for a break they are happy to have sensory items available to help them self-regulate. The timers have served as a great tool for students to monitor themselves. The tactile strips have help students re-gain focus when distracted, and the weighted blanket has allowed just the right amount of pressure to help calm students. Along with all of the items the students can physically touch, the calming corner classroom decor has created an inviting space for my students as well.
