  • Noise Cancelling Headphones for Students With Significant Disabilities

    Funded Sep 17, 2024

Noise-canceling headphones are becoming popular tools in classrooms, especially for students with special needs. These headphones help reduce background noise, which can make a big difference in how well students learn and feel in school. This use of noise canceling headphones has many benefits, including: students focus better, manage their emotions, and feel more included.

For many students in special education, noises in the classroom can be very distracting. Sounds like talking, movement, or other noises can make it hard for them to concentrate. Noise-canceling headphones help by blocking out these distractions, allowing students to focus on their work.

Studies have shown that when students use these headphones, they tend to finish their tasks more effectively and with better quality. By creating a quieter space, these headphones help students engage more deeply with their learning.

For some special education students, noise can lead to anxiety or even meltdowns. Noise-canceling headphones can provide a sense of calm in overwhelming situations. When students feel stressed, they can put on their headphones to reduce the noise and help themselves feel better.

This ability to manage their environment is important for their emotional growth. It teaches them how to cope with stress and helps create a more peaceful classroom atmosphere.

Using noise-canceling headphones also promotes independence among students. When they can control their own noise levels, they feel more empowered in their learning. This is especially important in diverse classrooms where students have different needs.

Additionally, these headphones help make the classroom more inclusive. By accommodating sensory sensitivities, all students can participate and succeed together.”

  • Providing a Safe and Naturing Classroom Environment

    Funded Oct 24, 2023

I just wanted to thank you for the generous donations you have provided! I love to see organizations and families giving back to the community through donations. My students were very excited when they say the boxes coming in daily and loved being apart of opening them all! The class favorite currently is the bean-bag chair, which has since had to be turned into a classroom reward and rotating schedule!

The materials you provided have gone to good use. Many of the materials assist me with organizing the classroom. From the rolling cart, to the book shelf to the photo boxes, the classroom is neatly organized and accessible to all students! Some of the materials you provided go hand and hand with implementation of teaching strategies, like the magnetic letters, foam dice and wiki stix!

Again, I just wanted to thank you so much for your donation. It does not go unseen! I hope that one day I can return the favor and provide you with some positivity as well!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Martinage

  • Changing Future Minds One Step at a Time!

    Funded Jul 15, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donations! It does not go unnoticed! The materials you donated added life to the classroom through making it a safe space for learners to grow!

The rugs provide a soft area for my students to relax with a book, or practice turn-taking during a game with a peer. The sensory bubble tower, metal pin art toy, sensory floor tiles, and fidgets all allow my students a calming area where they can gather their thoughts and emotions before returning to work.

The staple to every special education classroom for teaching include, lamination, velcro and teacher's tape! Organization is important to a successful classroom. The desk organizer and labels helps create an organized classroom setting, that promotes student engagement.

In conclusion, I would like to thank each of you for your donation and shared some classroom pictures to highlight the beautiful change.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Martinage
