Help Wanted! Struggling Readers Need Books!

Funded Apr 14, 2023

Thank you for your donations to my classroom! Because of your generosity, my students are being exposed to a variety of books that are mostly award-winning pieces. The new curriculum provides my class with consistency because of the routines each weekly lesson follows. This is important with teaching struggling readers. The reading program has not only improved my students' comprehension, but has also shown growth in their writing, vocabulary, and grammar skills.

The books that were purchased are from all genres - realistic fiction, informational texts, poetry, mystery, narrative nonfiction, folk tales, historical fiction, biographies, and memoirs. The children are eager to find out which book we will be reading each week. The weekly lessons focus on unique vocabulary words from the book that are practiced daily, 1-2 comprehension skills, a craftivity that goes with the comprehension skill, a short writing activity that usually has a directed drawing, and a grammar skill. I included two pictures to show examples of some of the activities my students have created.

I am extremely thankful for your kindness so I can help my children not only grow as readers, but also develop a love for reading!”

With gratitude,

Ms. King
