Clocking In
Funded Apr 6, 2023The atomic clocks (purchased for each classroom in our building) are an amazing addition to our school-wide classroom environment. Teachers were so excited to receive their clocks and students were equally excited! Since the first year I began working in my school, I noticed there were no clocks in every class. This was disheartening because students kept asking if it was time for them to go to lunch. To solve this problem, I brought my analog clock and placed it in the room during our mock testing session. To my surprise, students did not know how to tell time on my clock although the minutes were labeled with increments of five.
Since this experience, it was my goal to place an analog clock in each classroom because there was a huge lack of analog clocks throughout our building. With the clocks in every class, students are able to practice skip counting to tell time. In addition to this, they can utilize a piece of string to jump around the clock to tell time. Many students also like to use a dry erase marker to jump around the clock. Students enjoyed working with a partner to practice telling time.
After having these analog clocks as a part of our instruction, students are beginning to tell time on an analog clock. They are also excited to teach others how to tell time using an analog clock. Our teachers and students are so grateful for the donors who went out of their way to fund this project for our school. Without our donors, we would never have the opportunity to "clock in" and practice this life skill of telling time.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Ferguson
