Keeping Up with the Times
Funded Aug 31, 2023I truly appreciate your donation to our school. Since Covid, many students have gotten used to online resources. Your gift of the printed resource Scholastic Magazine has been a wonderful addition to our school library. Students can experience text with rich visuals and well researched information. The articles are well written and explore many current topics of interest to our students. In the library, all our students enjoy reading the short informative texts and the pro and con page provides much discussion. This printed resource is a break from technology.
I have been so excited using Scholastic News. It has proven to be a much needed resource that has been missing in our school library. Social Studies Teachers have asked to borrow whole sets for use in their classrooms. The videos accompanying the texts are an added bonus.
Thank you again for you support of our students' education.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Bena
This classroom project was brought to life by LOFT.Let's Get Financially Lit!
Funded Aug 3, 2023A class with prior instruction in personal finance was asked to come to the library and preview the board games. Each game was placed on a table. Students quickly organized into groups, selected their board game, began reading the instructions, and were excited to immediately "play". One student from each group took notes. The teacher and I circulated among the groups.
Students were provided with this opportunity to become fluent in the language of money and financial literacy. This class was also asked to make a list of terms and give the "Spanish" translation.
These Board Games supported the curriculum by familiarizing and reinforcing students with some of the fundamental concepts of finance. The book Rich Dad, Poor Dad for Teens was checked out of the library by a student who was "playing" the board game Cash Flow.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Bena
