New Year, New Room
Funded Oct 11, 2023Thank you for your support and generosity. My students have enjoyed the new speech space filled with vibrant and colorful posters. The posters that display the classroom's rules have been a positive addition to the speech room. My young students are able to easily look at the illustration to recall the rules and expectations in the speech room. My older students have benefited from the reading comprehension strategy posters. These posters serve as visual aids for students during reading and writing assignments. Students have utilized the reading strategy posters to remind them of the different strategies that they can use while reading. This includes asking questions, making connections, inferences, prediction and evaluating the story that they are reading.
The speech Might Mouth had the most impact for students with articulation errors. It provides the visual and tactile support needed to understand tongue placement when producing speech sounds. My younger students really enjoy using the mouth to show tongue placement and learning about different articulators that help us produce sound.
The alphabet card set has helped my early reader with phonemic awareness and phonic skills. They are becoming better at identifying letters and matching letters to beginning letter sounds. They like the concepts of matching letters and pictures. The students call the activity "The letter and sound game." Thanks to your generosity you have made learning letters and letter sounds fun.
Finally the social emotional book set has been great in having conversations about our feelings. Students are having conversations about what makes them mad, sad, worried or happy. These conversations have led to deeper conversations about how we should or can respond to our feelings. I have also used these books to help students retell stories that include all story elements. It has also led to personal stories where students shared a time that they were happy, sad, worried or mad.
Overall your giving has left a positive impact in my speech therapy room. Thank you for all your support.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Taylor

Funded Mar 30, 2023Once again thank you so much for supporting my speech therapy room with these great books!
Here is how your generosity has made a difference. For my younger reader the Elephant and Piggie collection has been a big hit. The students look forward to listening to one of the stories every time they come into my therapy room. I have been able to use these short stories to help students respond to inferential and prediction questions. The students are always excited about the surprise ending. In addition, The Elephant and Piggie collection is filled with high frequency words which has allowed them additional practice of these words especially for the students who prefer to read independently.
My fourth and Fifth grader are enjoying the titles "Bended" and "Other Words for Home." The students have expressed that Blended is such a relatable book. They are enjoying reading about the main character "Izzy." The title "Blended" has motivated my students to read more. They are encouraged by how quickly they are moving through the book.
The second title is "Other Words for Home," has opened my student's eyes to a new world. They are fascinated by the complexities of Jude's life and the challenges of living in a new country with a different language. I have used both titles to teach students about the narrator's point of view and inference skills. Reading these books aloud has improved their reading fluency and confidence in reading. In addition, they have learned lots of new vocabulary words. There has been a major transformation in my student's interest in reading.”
