Class Set of "The Sun and Her Flowers"

I cannot express how much we appreciate you donating to our program, our class set of "The Sun and Her Flowers" is now a much-beloved part of the creative writing one class. After learning about the differences in poetry, we do a deep dive into Rupi Kaur. Students really connect with her work because it's brief, evocative, and has an extra layer of depth thanks to the added images. We read through the book together as a class, discussing what each piece means and how the artwork interacts with and strengthens the work as a whole. After finishing the book, students got to make their own Rupi Kaur style poem consisting of a short micro poem and a corresponding image.

Some students enjoyed the project so much that they created multiple pieces, all of which were proudly displayed in our classroom and library. After reading "The Sun and Her Flowers" many students were inspired to read her other books, which is a true testament to how a great collection of poetry can inspire kids to continue writing and exploring.

I am so excited to continue this project in the 2023-2024 upcoming school year, and we thank you again for making such an incredible impact here at Woodside.”
