A Good Start for September

Funded Aug 2, 2023

We have finally received the last of our requested materials from Donors Choose and it has made a meaningful impact on my classroom. I just wanted to take a moment to share with you how the materials have been used.

The class set of scissors have been a wonderful addition to our art supplies. These scissors are the correct size for 3rd graders (no more preschool scissors). I have a few students that never quite learned how to use scissors correctly so the extra practice is good for their fine motor skills as well as completing an assignment. Also, we use the watercolor paint for Social Studies activities such as mapmaking. Painting is a great stress reliever and students have time to socialize while they get their cartography on!

Finally, the children's dictionary has been getting a lot of good use, especially when students are editing their writing. Previously, I had one dictionary and there would be a long line of students waiting for their turn so now the time is cut in half. We will be using the Native Communities visual dictionary when we begin our upcoming storytelling unit. I hope these materials last for many years!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Joseph
