  • Bringing Romeo and Juliet to Life in the Classroom

    Funded Jul 8, 2023

    Thank you so much for your generous donations, which allowed me to purchase mulitple costumes for our Romeo and Juliet unit. Students are very excited about wearing the costumes as we read the play. Their faces actually beam with joy at the sight of these costumes that they get to put on for this unit, and their smiles remain on their faces as they look at the costumes they and their peers are wearing as we read and sometimes act out certain scenes. This is so important for this unit, as reading Shakespeare can be intimidating for many students. Wearing costumes during the reading and acting encourages them to be physically demostrative, which is a real benefit for all learners, especially kinesthetic learners. Students are more engaged in Romeo and Juliet when wearing the costumes and acting out scenes, which deepens their understanding of the text.

    Of course, I will be sharing these costumes with my colleagues who also have Shakespeare units. They are just as excitied as the students about these new costumes that bring extra joy to our students in our Shakespeare units. Joy, fun, and engagement are key aspects of learning, and these costumes are a real boost to these vital components! Thank you for sponsoring this project!”
