Pi Night
Funded Mar 4, 2023On the evening of March 14, 2023 I was able to successfully carryout our annual Pi Night celebration. The event had been on hold since the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic hit so our students and families were very excited about the event returning. We had about 400 students and family members attend the event.
During the event, students and family members played all the games that were purchased. Our kindergarteners to second graders loved playing the Math Swatters Addition and Subtraction game with one of our amazing first grade teachers. They loved swatting the expressions and the answers to expressions. They kept going back to that station to play the game. The older students also enjoyed playing the card games Proof! and Absolute Zero with one of our City Year core members.
Students got to explore with the 21st Century Pattern Blocks and the traditional pattern blocks. With one of the fourth grade teachers, they used them to create awesome patterns and pictures as well as challenge themselves to explore how larger wholes are comprised of different parts or fractions. Students enjoyed using the new updated pattern blocks that allow them to see more fractional parts than the traditional pattern blocks.
Pi Night has been sorely missed by our students and families. With the materials that were purchased by our donors choose project we can continue to have successful math nights that will help foster strong school-to-home connections and help students find joy and fun in mathematics learning.”
With gratitude,
