  • Speed, Strength and Fun with Track and Field in PE

    Funded Mar 16, 2025

I want to express our sincere gratitude for the incredible introduction to speed, discus, and shot put during the track and field segment of the PE program. The students will be thoroughly engaged and excited to learn these new skills. The focus on developing speed through drills and races will be exhilarating, and the careful instruction on the techniques for discus and shot put allows them to experience the thrill of these field events in a safe and supportive environment. Your dedication to providing such a diverse and enriching experience is truly appreciated, and we saw a significant boost in the students' enthusiasm for physical activity. Thank you for fostering a love for track and field and for creating such memorable learning opportunities.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Manutai

  • Building a Cool and Rewarding PE Through Active Well-being

    Funded Oct 20, 2024

The simple additions of portable fans, water bottles, and snacks transformed our elementary PE program into a much more enjoyable and productive experience, and for that, we are incredibly grateful. The portable fans provided a welcome relief from the sweltering heat during outdoor activities, allowing students to focus on their physical development rather than discomfort. This seemingly small gesture significantly improved their concentration and participation. The readily available water bottles ensured that everyone stayed hydrated, crucial for maintaining energy levels and preventing heat-related issues. The thoughtful inclusion of healthy snacks provided a much-needed energy boost after intense activities, allowing students to refuel and return to their lessons with renewed vigor. We deeply appreciate the consideration and effort that went into providing these resources, as they directly contributed to the well-being and success of our students.

The impact of these items extended beyond mere physical comfort; they fostered a sense of care and community within the PE program. The provision of these essentials demonstrated a genuine concern for the students' well-being, creating a supportive and nurturing environment. Children felt valued and cared for, which undoubtedly enhanced their enthusiasm for physical activity. The shared experience of enjoying snacks and refreshing water breaks fostered camaraderie and strengthened bonds among students. We are immensely thankful for the generosity that made these resources available, as they not only improved the physical aspects of our program but also nurtured a positive and inclusive atmosphere. The thoughtful provision of these items truly reflected a commitment to the students' overall development and happiness, for which we express our sincere gratitude.”

  • Building Skills & Confidence

    Funded Aug 5, 2024

Physical education (PE) programs play a crucial role in fostering confidence in elementary students, particularly when introducing them to sports like volleyball. The structured environment of PE allows children to learn fundamental skills in a safe and supportive setting. Through progressive drills and activities, they gradually develop hand-eye coordination, learn proper serving and passing techniques, and experience the satisfaction of successful rallies. Each small victory, whether it's a clean serve or a well-executed pass, contributes to a growing sense of competence. Furthermore, PE emphasizes participation and effort over perfection, encouraging students to embrace challenges and learn from their mistakes, which is essential for building resilience and self-assurance.

Beyond skill development, the team-oriented nature of volleyball in a PE setting fosters social confidence. Working together to achieve a common goal, communicating effectively, and supporting teammates creates a sense of belonging and camaraderie. Elementary students learn to value their contributions to the team, regardless of their skill level. Positive reinforcement from teachers and peers further reinforces their efforts, boosting their self-esteem. As they experience the joy of teamwork and the thrill of participating in a sport, children develop a more positive self-image and a greater willingness to take on new challenges allowing us to use the trainer outdoors and to have fun!”

  • Movement to Create Play and Connection!

    Funded Feb 18, 2024

This year have helped me create an atmosphere that rewarded our students for their efforts in PE. I have an outdoor classroom and sometimes due to weather we are not able to go outdoors. With the funding from this project we were able to have many activities that engaged the students in teamwork and movement while having fun. Thank you for providing this opportunity for my students from SPED PRe-K - 2nd grade to feel successful.

Another big focus I had was creating incentives for our students and our special needs students. We were able to create a quiet space for my special needs students to participate with their peers...thank you. The incentives were a hit and the students learned and mastered jump rope tricks, field hockey, ball control and balance with our incentives.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Manutai

  • Move Outdoors, Connect, Grow, and Have Fun!

    Funded Mar 7, 2023

The students at Laie Elementary in our Pre-K SPED, Resource class, and Kindergarten - 2nd graders were beyond excited to use the "Move Outdoors, connect, grow, and Have Fun" equipment for PE! There were so many shouts of excitement; smiling faces; thanks you's and hugs because we had this equipment in their PE rotations.

The very first equipment that we used were the Chinese Jump Ropes. Many of our students did not know what game it was and needed assistance to work together and learn. This is a teamwork game and our students were having so much fun learning a jumping combination. As their skills progressed they were creating they're on challenges and levels and it was exactly what we needed to help build their confidence; introduce a new skill; encourage teamwork; and encourage creativity. Mahalo nui Loa for creating this experience for our students.

We have an outdoor classroom and the students have loved having the equipment to incorporate new skills and games. Many of our students have expressed gratitude because of our new equipment! In fact, I rotate the sessions and equipment and sometimes I have students begging to repeat PE activities because they had so much fun.

We were also able to use the team building equipment and games with the students to encourage physical activity and build a connection with their peers. It was so exciting to see their smiles and laughter as they were hopping, running, tugging, pulling and playing together! This was an absolute success and our students enjoyed it so much. Thank you for making this possible for our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Manutai
