Very First Classroom Books!

Funded Mar 30, 2023

Thanks to your generous donation of the Lakeshore Nonfiction Sight-Word Readers, our classroom has seen a significant boost in student engagement and confidence in reading. These books are specifically designed to support early readers, and they've been a game changer for my students, especially those who are still mastering sight words. The simple, repetitive text combined with colorful, real-world images has made reading more accessible and enjoyable for them.

In our classroom, reading is a shared experience where we focus on building both fluency and comprehension. The Lakeshore Sight-Word Readers are perfect for practicing high-frequency words while also exploring exciting nonfiction topics. From learning about animals to understanding basic science concepts, these books help students build important background knowledge while reinforcing their reading skills. The combination of sight words and nonfiction content is a great way to engage students and expand their vocabulary at the same time.

Several students who were previously hesitant readers have shown tremendous growth since we started using these books. One student who struggled with confidence has become much more enthusiastic about reading, proudly pointing out sight words in the stories. Another student who loves animals has become especially engaged with the nonfiction content, often asking for additional books on similar topics. It's been amazing to see how these books are not only helping my students improve their reading skills but also encouraging their natural curiosity about the world.

Your donation has truly made a difference in creating a positive, enriching reading environment. The Lakeshore Sight-Word Readers are giving my students the tools they need to become more confident, independent readers while also fostering a love of learning about the world around them. Thank you for your generosity in making this possible!”

With gratitude,
