Set the Stage for Our New Theatre Arts Department!
Funded May 10, 2023Thank you so much for your generous donations to our classroom. We are using the resources every day, and they are truly enriching our learning experience. In the new design class, we started the year with learning how to create special effects makeup- this is something we could not do last year without running water in our classroom. Now that we have a camping sink, students are able to sanitize and clean their hands, arms, faces, and wash brushes when they are done creating bruises, burns, cuts, scrapes, and blisters. The little hand mirrors come in very handy when a student decides to place a design on their face or a hard to see place like an ankle.
The storage items have been a huge help in creating a more seamless experience for both the students and me. The new cube storage cubbies now hold stage makeup and makeup supplies, sketch books, lap desks, colored pencils, markers, tissues, and colored gels for stage lighting. The rolling printer station doesn't hold a printer (yet), but it does hold binders of curriculum for each course, hanging file folders full of student work, summatives, and forms. The drawers allow me to have easy access to hall passes, chargers, and pens and pencils, while the top surface is home to the new stapler and pencil sharpener. Last year, all of these items were quite far away from the main teaching area and difficult to keep track of.
The theatre program is growing exponentially in its second year, with over 30 students participating in our winter play both onstage and behind the scenes. We have three field trips planned to see shows in both Lowell and Boston, and have a several visiting guest artists coming to LHS.
Please come to see our fantastic shows this year in the Burgoyne Theatre at 40 Paige Street in Lowell. "Bright.Young.Things." performs on Friday, December 15th at 7pm and Saturday, December 16th at 2pm and 7pm. "Ride the Cyclone," a musical, performs Friday, May 3rd at 7pm and Saturday, May 4th at 2pm and 7pm. We would love to see you there!”
With gratitude,
Ms. B
