A Library for All Faces and Voices

Funded Feb 8, 2023

I would like to thank you for your generous book donation to my second grade class!

Reading is a huge part of everyday curriculum in 2nd grade. We read every morning as part of our Daily 5 rotations, we read when we finish our phonics work, and we read at the end of the day! This year, I have been lucky enough to watch my extraordinary group of students blossom as readers, and this is possible thanks to your donations! I started the year with no classroom books, and am ending the year with an expansive, inclusive, beautiful library.

I have book options for every genre, gender, skin tone, moral, etc. These books have shown my students how to persevere, how to adapt, how to grow, and to be proud of who they are. These books were especially helpful during Reading Across America Month. Every day, one of my students was able to pick a book out of the library for our daily read aloud, and having a wide range of options made this an exciting opportunity.

As you can see in my pictures, my classroom is wonderfully diverse. Getting to see these students reading books where they can identify with the main characters is so valuable, and something these students don't find anywhere else.

As our media continues to diversify and become more inclusive, I thank you for helping my library to grow and expand along with it.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Gomez
