Rainbow Book Club
Funded Nov 18, 2024Thank you so much for all your help in funding this project. I can't describe the look on the students' face when they saw we got our books for our Rainbow "Rainbook" Club to read together. Although we live in a city that can be rich of cultures, religions and lifestyles; the LGBTQIA+ community is one that deserves love as well! With the books selected, we are introducing them to a different world of gender, expression and sexuality. Just as the author says in the book, A Different Kind of Fruit, "together Annabelle, Bailey, and their families discover how these categories that seem to mean so much—boy, girl, gay, straight, fruit, vegetable—aren't so clear-cut after all." Whether we read about historical figures such as Martha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, or learning about different genders, they'll be learning that LGBTQIA+ is more than an acronym!
I hope you have a wonderful holiday and thank you for all your help! You've succeeded in making Rainbow Club an even safer place for these kids.”

Arabic Language Library
Funded Dec 30, 2023With much love and appreciation i'm happy to share the Arabic Language Library has stirred so much interest! I'm thankful and relieved to see the students so interested and challenging themselves to pick them rather than an English book. Although the selections are still very small compared to English and Spanish, it gives me hope that publishing companies create more selections for Arabic language learners.
You are helping create a positive change in these schools! I wish that there were more people in the world! Thank you for all you do!”

Funded Mar 29, 2023When I was creating this project, it was to give agency in the library to the students at the Esperanza/KDA community. Whenever they came to the library, it lacked titles that interest them and/or books they WANTED to read. I allowed to students to suggest titles, and after carefully going through the requests, provided a majority of their suggestions or requests! A school library is a student's first introduction to loving literature besides the classroom and outside of school, and I am proud of everyone who assisted in creating a great collection. Without DonorsChoose, Eat Play Learn and everyone who donated, I would not had been able to give these kids a fun space to read in. Thank you again and I hope you know how excited they were when they got their chance to request them! The hold lists were non-stop for titles!”

Funded Aug 8, 2023We did it! I am so grateful and elated we received the funding for the project. If it were not for Eat Play Learn matching all your donations, the goal would not have been made! I can't wait to be able to show them new titles or high interest in Spanish, and be able to add on to this project of a multi-lingual library collection! 2 languages, 2 cool is only the beginning :)”

Funded May 3, 2023I was so grateful to see the collection grow with books from different cultures, ethnicities, and heritage. The goal of this project was to have books that not only reflect the students and the community but expand their knowledge on different backgrounds from other communities as well. Elementary school is a pivotal time for these students to absorb information and learn from everything, so I am incredibly thankful to have been able to provide these stories to them. The library looks so much more vibrant, welcoming, and inviting for kids to read and teachers to share with classes.
Without DonorsChoose, I could not have made this happen. Thank you to volunteers with the project, donations, and/or the students who inspired the project to begin with.”

Funded Mar 28, 2023You have all done wonders for improving this collection and this space! The students have been absolutely thrilled to receive these new titles, and are so eager to get their hands on them. Including them in this project was so helpful and fun so we could create a collection they have autonomy over. These books are for two schools; Fred T. Korematsu Discovery and Esperanza Elementary, a combination of 637 students and more coming! They enjoy having autonomy and a voice in this process, which gives them more independence and encourages them to explore their interest. Thank you for all your help in making an impact!”
