Snacks Bank - Reducing Hunger Induced Distractions
Funded Feb 16, 2023Before this project, students return from the gym for their last 3 hours of the day's lessons famished and tired. They would usually have to go through those last 3 hours of the day hungry and understandably distracted. But, with your kind and generous donations, they now know they can always get food from room 408 where our snacks pantry operates from. Seeing kids running in from the gym to grab a snack is always a sure thing at 11:35 am.
The joy and gratitude they express transcend words. As a teacher, I am so grateful that every kid can always come to the room hungry and leave with a bag of "needed energy" to see them through the remaining part of the day, and this is all thanks to YOU.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Yemi
This classroom project was brought to life by Black History Month Partners and 3 other donors.Recharge the Tummy to Recharge the Brain
Funded Feb 5, 2023We started a snacks pantry with the snacks we received from donors. Students can pick up a snack when they are hungry during the last two hours of the day. This is the time when students are most hungry and distracted, this is expected given their "lunch" period ends at 10:40 because our school is located in a shared space.
At first, they found it quite shocking and unbelievable that they could get a snack in school for free every day when they need it. That soon turned to an attitude of gratitude, the look of gratitude on their face about having a place to pick up a snack when they are hungry is absolutely indescribable. Also importantly, quite a number of them are inspired that donors as you care so much as to do this for them.
We are hopeful to continue raising the funds needed to keep this snacks pantry initiative going because this initiative will help our kids be more focused in those few hours before the end of the school day. Th”
