Lighting Up Literature In Nature
Funded Apr 20, 2023Thank you so much once again for donating to our student's book lights. I am so glad they had access to these materials. In particular, my students were there when I unboxed the package and they were SO excited and were all begging to try them out in class. They all wanted to help organize them and number them to make sure every student had one. They also were testing all the lights to make sure they worked (they came with loads of extra batteries!!) and I am unsure how none of my students were blinded by looking at the lights directly all day, but they were and they loved helping!
We used our booklights in our outdoor school program. Students were so busy during the day the second they got to their cabins they were exhausted and ready to cuddle in to read their books. The 5th-grade cohort was reading much more because "it was so cool that we all have our own lights!" A lot of my students wanted to keep them to read at home, but unfortunately, I had to let them know that the 5th-grade team was hoping to use them for the following years at outdoor school.
My students were so excited and even asked if we can use them in class...so I am seeing a lights-out day in our classroom so they can all cuddle up with their books and book lights to enjoy them one last time before going to middle school. Even my nonreaders found a great source of comfort having the book light with them to look through their books or drawings as well as a night light. Thank you for helping my kids that were anxious about being away from home.
Thank you all again! This experience was made magical and comforting because of all of you! I appreciate all your generosity in getting this project fulfilled for my 5th-graders!”
With gratitude,
Ms. K
