  • Fueling the Reading Fire with Japanese Manga

    Thank you for donating to my classroom. When the books arrived my students were overjoyed. I had previously told them that I put up the Donorschoose and they didn't believe that people would actually donate money for them to get books. It really is a reflection of the fact that many of them are not accustomed to random acts of kindness. Therefore, what you were able to do for them was not just donate books but also show them that people can just be generous for the sake of generosity.

    These books are from popular anime series that the students like to watch. It makes for a great lesson when I can tell them they can read something that they enjoy. It creates a guaranteed buy-in to read for them. This can(and often does) transition them into reading other kinds of books as well. My goal is always to just get students to pick up a book. That is usually the hardest step. Therefore, your generosity has allowed many students to pick up a book that they yearned for.”
