• Enhancing Math and Technology Education for Students

  Happy Holiday season!

  Thank you again for funding this project. The project has profoundly impacted my students by transforming the way they engage with mathematics and each other. The math board games, card games, and puzzle books have added a dynamic and interactive element to our classroom, allowing students to strengthen their math skills and explore problem-solving in a relaxed and enjoyable manner. These resources have encouraged collaboration, critical thinking, and strategic planning, fostering a love for math that extends beyond traditional learning methods.

  Especially, the Fujifilm Polaroid camera has played a pivotal role in creating a sense of community and celebration within the classroom. By capturing moments of collaboration, accomplishments, and shared joy during activities, the camera has turned learning into something memorable and visually rewarding. Group photos and snapshots of success have helped build team spirit and created a sense of pride and ownership in the student's learning journey.

  Overall, this project has not only enhanced students' mathematical abilities but also created a vibrant, engaging, and supportive environment where learning is celebrated and enjoyed as a shared experience. It has helped students view math not just as a subject to master but as an opportunity to create lasting memories and develop valuable life skills!”

  The calculators are a game-changer in the classroom, especially for students who struggle with abstract mathematical concepts. Having reliable scientific calculators allows them to focus more on problem-solving and understanding formulas rather than worrying about manual calculations.

  Specifically, I remember there are several students who often struggle with confidence in math, and have been particularly enthusiastic about the new calculators. They also ask about the granola bars almost every day as it helps them to have more energy and focus. Another student, who loves exploring technology, has taken the lead in teaching peers how to use all the features of these calculators. It's inspiring to see their excitement and how it translates into collaboration and peer learning in the classroom.

• Enhancing Classroom Mental Health through Music and Games

  Funded Aug 14, 2024

  With the addition of the piano and games from the "Enhancing Classroom Mental Health through Music and Games" project, both we and the students have created a vibrant and supportive classroom environment. One memorable moment was when we first introduced the piano and I played it myself. The students' faces lit up with excitement as they gathered around, some quietly watching, others eagerly asking to play a tune or try out familiar melodies. I'm surprised that several students actually know how to play piano. It quickly became a gathering point during breaks and an anchor in our lessons, bringing everyone together and helping students unwind in the middle of their academic challenges.

  For a specific classroom project, I was thinking about a project that combining math and music in a unique way. The students calculated rhythms and intervals as part of a math lesson, giving them a hands-on way to understand fractions, timing, and patterns. This project is applied to the Honors Advanced Math class, which not only deepened their understanding of math concepts but also sparked enthusiasm as they realized the connection between math and music, creating a relaxed and creative learning experience.

  Looking ahead, the next step is to expand this experience to my other classes such as Algebra 1, and Algebra 2. We hope to gather more instruments, a portable speaker, and additional school supplies. These resources would allow us to involve even more students and add a new layer to our classroom activities, amplifying their engagement and giving them creative outlets to support their mental health and learning.

• Calming Area

  I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your generous support and invaluable contribution towards my project of creating a calming area for students to "chill." Your contribution and willingness to extend a helping hand have made a lasting impact on my students.

  My students started using the toys to reduce their stress and distract themselves from any negativity. There was a time when a student of mine finished his work early and decided to use his free time by using the calming space. He seemed to be very distracted that day and very unmotivated. Once he used the calming space and its resources his mood seemed more relaxed. It also influenced my other students to start using the calming space whenever they required it.

  When my students first saw the area and toys, they seemed excited because they finally had a small quiet area to relax in and just let go. Indeed, the moment my students laid eyes on the completed area, their joy was palpable. The smiles on their faces were a testament to the positive and effective impact the calming area has had on their daily lives at school. They were thrilled to have a dedicated space that promotes relaxation, mindfulness, and mental well-being as it is also significantly helpful for math learning.

  The next step for my students on a current classroom project is to provide a warmer environment and toys that encourage all my students to feel comfortable using the calming space whenever they need a break. In recent discussions with our students, they expressed a desire to enhance the calming area further by incorporating additional toys and engaging activities. They found immense value in the toys available, as they not only bring joy but also serve as stress-relievers during break times or moments of high tension in the classroom.

  Once again, I would really like to thank all the sponsors for being able to help my students with their mental and emotional health. It can uplift people and even help teachers provide their students with a safe place.
