Using Your Notes Is Key!
Funded Oct 1, 2023Thank you so much for your generous support in helping our school secure a set of notebooks for all of my students. Notebooks are a critical resource for my science classroom as they serve as a way to record observations during experiments, record new equations or concepts introduced during lectures, and complete example problems that students can use as a reference.
This year I am really trying to support my students with ownership and organization, so it will really benefit them to have their own notebook that they are responsible to bring to class each day. Students are also highly encouraged to take notes often during class because I allow them access to any notes they have taken to use on exams. Students can then take greater ownership over their notes so that they can use all of the knowledge they have gained during a unit to help them succeed during assessments and also help reduce test anxiety.
Our notebooks have also been very helpful to record data for several lab activities throughout the year, including an RC car velocity lab, Projectile motion launchers, and our annual Egg Drop analyzing momentum changes in collisions. Your generous donation has helped to provide a higher quality and more equitable science education for the students of Philadelphia.”

Funded Jan 20, 2023Our students used the hanging masses you so graciously donated to our classroom to study the effects of torque and equilibrium. Students re-created a balance beam that one might see at a doctors office to study the effects of force application and rotation. They all really enjoyed the lab and always appreciate having hands on science experiences. We have also used the masses throughout the year for various other projects and labs such as testing the friction of different surfaces, calculating elastic potential energy, and testing the strength of different materials.”
