  • Smart Board Smart Math!

    Funded Nov 28, 2024

Thank you for providing a SMART BOARD for a clearer visual for teaching and learning Math. The interactive SMART BOARD is one of the most powerful technological mediums to deliver Mathematics instruction and to interact with students. Our Smart Board helps us interact with lesson plans with our students ranging from lessons on fractions to providing a visual of a pie divided by different amounts to having students come to the board and play interactive Math games.

Our new Smartboard is exciting for our students because it acts as a computer touchscreen, a touchpad that is controlled with a projector, a place for them to write on the board like a chalkboard, a tablet, and most of all, another great way to get more students engaged in our lessons.

Our visual and kinesthetic learners are the students who especially have warmed up to this new Smartboard!”

  • Headsets for Academic Mindsets!

    Funded Dec 15, 2024

Most of our student body can utilize a personalized laptop daily. For individualized learning and intentional focus, students are provided headphones to hear instructional videos and assignments without audio distractions.

The most exciting part of having new headphones is that students feel that they have adequate resources to support their learning. When students can hear clearly with headphones there are fewer frustrations and more opportunities for success.

The students who have especially warmed to this new technology are our IEP and IAP students who have individualized learning plans that provided additional supports for the learning environment.

New headphones help to aid in the additional classroom support for all of our students!”

  • Financial Literacy: Preparation for the Real World!

    Funded Nov 4, 2024

Foundations in Personal Finance High School Edition is an amazing tool for teaching our students the importance of understanding finances, budgeting, banking, and much more. Our RWL (Real World Learning), Quest For Success, and Math students benefit from personal finance activities and the Bank Account game.

Students learn a variety of processes involved in having a checking account. As they play around the gameboard, they write checks, make deposits, and keep accurate records. Real-life transactions include buying groceries, paying taxes, making car payments, and paying medical bills. The Bank Account game is a great way to build literacy and real-world skills!

Thank you for providing these invaluable tools to our students!”

  • Improve Physical Fitness through Basketball!

    Funded Oct 13, 2024

Our school does not have an indoor multipurpose facility or a gymnasium. Our students utilize the outdoor area for physical fitness. Currently, we have a side concrete area designated for basketball and our most recent goal was an old, damaged backboard, falling sideways every time a student would attempt a dunk. The old goal would not rise to 10 feet and it didn't allow students the challenge of a regulation-height basketball goal.

Our students are excited about the new basketball goal and have been playing basketball games every day! After the new goal was assembled, more students have been participating in playing basketball daily, improving their overall fitness! The next step for our students is to have a 3 on 3 basketball tournament!”

  • A Cursive Writing Practice Workbook for Teens

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

Our students are learning new skills using the Cursive Writing books you donated to us. At the beginning of the class period, that is dedicated for the "Do Now" activity, our students are writing in cursive to improve their penmanship, career skills, and personalized signatures. Our students are excited to learn a new skill and have been committed to practicing daily.

Students are learning about different career skills such as building their resumes, creating portfolios, and the importance of an individualized, personalized signature. Our students are practicing daily to improve their cursive writing and to better understand how to read documents that are written in cursive. Students were amazed to learn that cursive writing used to be a mandated part of schools' curriculum. In the past, some teachers required students to only write in cursive. Additionally, students are learning to create their signatures! Signing documents, checks, and contracts are an integral part of our Real World Learning, LRS, and Quest for Success programs. Students are practicing writing cursive daily in their Cursive Writing Books to prepare for signing important documents!”

  • Peer Mediators Keep the Peace and Spread Kindness!

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

Our peer mediators are student leaders who conduct peer mediation with students as a part of our restorative process. Our peer mediators lead mediation with students who have conflicts with other students and students who may not have seen eye to eye with a staff member.

After the mediation, our peer mediators not only offer the next steps for moving forward positively, but they also offer each participant a silicone affirmation bracelet which not only provides a positive message but gives the wearer something to reflect on, if conflict should arise in the future.

Our peer mediators will also share a positive affirmation bracelet with their peers who just need a pick-me-up and a reminder of the power of awesome they already have inside. Thank you for helping our Peer Mediators "Keep The Peace" and lead with kindness!”

  • Emotional Care with Care Bears

    Funded Sep 25, 2024

Care Bears are uplifting and have been bringing smiles to our students. Students carry their Care Bears throughout the day to bring comfort and care. One student never leaves home without her Care Bear. When students saw the variety of Care Bears delivered they were excited! The variety of colors gave students an array of bears to choose from. We hope our students spread caring and sharing around our classrooms and school, and encourage peers to spread caring, sharing, love, friendship, acceptance, fun, and happiness to one another every day!

The next step for our students is to use Care Bears as a support when they become anxious or distressed. Students may also share a Care Bear with a friend when a friend is experiencing stress, grief, sadness, or a challenging life event. Care Bears continue to serve as cheerful reminders of how small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone's day.”

  • Flexible Seating for SEL and Enhanced Learning Spaces!

    Funded Jul 26, 2024

Students are using flexible seating in our Quest For Success Classes! Flexible seating is used on floor spaces or to add cushion to chairs. Our students couldn't wait to sit on the flexible seats when we began opening the packages! The flexible cushioned seats are in different areas of the room throughout the day based on the class activity. For instance, sometimes students use the flexible seating while reading books or creating projects on the floor. Other times students place the flexible seats in their current chairs to add elevation and additional cushion.

The beautiful sea blue color of the flexible seating adds to the calming classroom environment. Nothing is more important than encouraging, nurturing, and supporting the success of our students. We are always looking for new and creative ways to enhance classroom engagement and improve student performance. By making changes to the physical classroom environment itself, we are creating an environment where students can succeed, an environment that is already working in their favor. As it turns out, small transformations to the physical space of our classroom greatly improve the odds of our students being fully engaged and successful in their studies.”
