Lifelong Learner's Library

Funded Mar 22, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donations to my scholars. The science comics brought joy to many students, as they were able to read about subjects that were not in our units of study like the the ocean and volcanoes. Many reluctant readers found joy in comparing the records from year to year in the Guinness World Records collection. There would be peals of joy when students could find people that were record holders for multiple years or see what a person had to accomplish to oust them. The DK Eyewitness texts were a personal favorite of mine, since I remember learning so much from them when I was a child. It was great to be able to share something from my childhood that shaped how I know and understand the world with my students and see it having the same effect on them.

I carefully curated my list of texts based on snippets of conversations from students when they spoke to their peers on the playground and during lunch to see what really made them excited. Your very generous donations helped me to begin a library that will continue to excite them and motivate them to explore their interests and share them with their peers. So many students discovered shared hobbies as they explored the cookbooks. I took great pleasure in making copies from them each day so that the students could take them home and try them with their parents.

Thank you so very much for providing me with the ability to nurture this love of learning in my scholars. I am sure that scholars will remember these books and these moments of reading for the rest of their lives. I know I never forgot the books my teachers shared with me. Thank you for allowing me to embody those qualities that I most appreciated in my previous educators.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Hicks
