Reading Games for 4th Grade
Funded Feb 12, 2024Thank you so much for funding my project Reading Games for 4th Grade. My class and I really appreciate it. I started working at Century Park this past December 2022. Like all classes, it takes time to get to know a class and what they need. One of the first things that I noticed about my kids is that they needed assistance with reading and fluency; reading games is a great way to engage students in reading.
Games are so vital in any classroom. I am constantly looking for games that will increase student engagements as well as help students with their reading skills. The games that you purchased for my class were games that I knew my students would enjoy. I showed the class the games and they were excited to learn to play. A few days after we received the games, I taught the students how to play Splat! The kids loved the game and are constantly asking to play the game. This is a great way for students to think about synonyms and antonyms. My goal with having students play these games is not just for their reading skills to increase, but for their writing skills to increase as well.
My students are very happy with the games. I can't wait to see how playing these games will help their reading and writing skills.”

Diverse Books, SEL, and Basic Products!
Funded Feb 6, 2023Thank you so much for funding my project Diverse Books, SEL, and Basic Products. My class and I really appreciate it. I started working at Century Park this past December 2022. Like all classes, it takes time to get to know a class and what they need. One of the first things that I noticed about my kids is that they needed assistance with reading and an increase of diverse books in the classroom.
Diverse books are so vital in any classroom. I am constantly looking for books with characters that look like my students. The books that you purchased for my class were books that I knew my students would enjoy. I showed the class the books and each was interested; some books received more interest than others, but we found a democratic way of sharing and rotating the books among us. I have seen my students' engagement and appreciation for books increase with the books that have been purchased for the classroom. Around the same time that I received the books from you, I also started incorporating silent reading into our daily routine. Silent reading gives students the opportunity to read in class silently. Students are allowed to move and read comfortably; silent reading and the new books in the classroom allow students to see that reading can be fun and enjoyable.
One of my favorite items that we received was a book on Black Inventors. The book arrived at the precise time that we are talking about inventors and inventions. I was thrilled to be able to share the book with my students and study inventors of color. I think it is so important for my students to see inventors of color, this will hopefully inspire them to become inventors.
Thank you so much for choosing my project to fund. My class and I really appreciate it!”
