  • Math Tools, Manipulatives, and More

    Funded May 24, 2024

Thank you so much for donating these items to our class. Many students are working on fine motor and letter formation. Any type of drawing or writing is beneficial to them, as it uses there muscles for the beginning stages of writing. One of the items that were funded was tracing tablets. They have 4 different squares with different colors. Some students will write their name and others like to just color all the squares. Even though they are coloring all the squares, it is still helping their fine motor. They will also use this to write our new letters and numbers. This is so beneficial and it is good that they enjoy doing this.

Students truly get so excited to use these materials! This is so great because I have a few students that do not like to draw or write. Anytime they are given something knew it helps develop their skills. All students want to try it once because it is new and them even doing it once or experiencing it through a different object can be good for them.

We are currently working on the letter F and this is a fine way for them to practice writing the letter. Thank you again for donating the students and myself greatly appreciate it!”

  • Listening Center Books and Class Library Books

    Funded Sep 11, 2023

This donation means so much to us as we are a Title 1 school. Many of our students are second language learners and since they are in Kindergarten they are at the very start of their development in language. There are many times throughout the day that we read stories, however during their reading rotations they have an independent center geared towards more fun read alouds they may enjoy more.

This donation is geared towards that center; The Listening Center. They go to this center independently and are greeted with a new book and read aloud each time they are there. This donation helps be able to put those new books in front of them. The most important part of this center is that they are on tape so the book is read to them. This is very important as it helps them develop their reading skills. They are able to learn how to follow along within the book and hear what a fluent reader should sound like.

Thank you so much for giving our classroom an assortment of books on tape that they can listen to and enjoy as they develop their reading, listening, and comprehension skills.”

  • Listening Center Books

    Funded Mar 31, 2023

Throughout the year our students are engaged in a listening center as one of their independent activities. Being able to allow them to use books that are engaging and that can be read to them is amazing and all thanks to our donors.

During the year we have a unit on weather. the Book storms is great to put in our listening center for them to be immersed in and have it aligned with our unit. While teaching summer school we also talk about different habitats. Due to this we were able to put animal books such as the ant and ponies one out and have it aligned with the unit and lesson as well.

These books are great for our students and have offered all 4 of our kindergarten classrooms with some amazing literature and access for our littles that are still having trouble reading or our emergent bilinguals who benefit from listening to oral language.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Chaffin

  • Listening Center Books

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

Thank you so much for donating these books. We don't have many listening center books in our collection and this added to it. It gives the students colorful and interesting books rather than the old ones we found in cupboards!

Since many of our students are younger they can't read in the beginning. So to allow them to become more independent we have a center called listening center. They sit down put on some headphones and flip through the pages as the story is told to them. This allows them to get familiar with the words and print concepts as well. Making syre these books are vibrant and fun are especially important because we want them to enjoy what they are listening to.

Thank you again for your kind donations. This is our second year with them and I can't wait for this group of kiddos to enjoy them just as much as the last group!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Chaffin

  • Listening Center Books

    Funded Feb 3, 2023

My students are still beginning readers so they don't have the fluency and intonation as many of us seasoned readers do. They are also English Learners as their first language is Spanish. Having this listening center has captured their attention more than just looking at the pictures. They enjoy going to the center and finding out what book they are going to read next. So far they have loved every book in the bundle.

Each day 8 students visit this center and they are there 2 at a time. They get to listen and follow along with the story 2 times once to listen and look at pictures and once to follow along with the words. Then students will complete a mini worksheet asking the title, if they liked the book, and to draw a picture or write a sentence of a part in the story. Their favorite books so far were "Race Day" and "Swim Fish."

There are 3 Kindergarten classes at my school with 27-28 students in each class. You have introduced some amazing new books to our learners and us teachers as well as our students are more than grateful! Thank you again for all that you have contributed!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Chaffin
