Hunger and Scarcity: Eliminating Food Waste!
Funded Jan 27, 2023Thanks to the generous donations, our students at PS 145 have embarked on an impactful journey to address food waste, hunger, and scarcity within our community. The provision of essential resources like refrigerators, storage containers, reusable shopping bags, and utility carts has allowed us to initiate the establishment of a community food pantry right within our school. This project not only empowers our students as natural-born leaders but also positions them as changemakers committed to addressing pressing issues.
The impact of these donations goes beyond the physical resources; it has inspired a sense of responsibility and community engagement among our students. Witnessing their excitement when they first saw the materials was truly heartwarming. Their eyes lit up with the realization that they now had the tools to turn their leadership aspirations into tangible action. Currently, our students are actively involved in designing and organizing the community food pantry, using their leadership skills to make a difference. The next steps involve implementing sustainable practices to ensure the pantry's success, educating the school community on reducing food waste, and fostering a culture of empathy and giving. This project is not just about setting up a food pantry; it's about instilling values of compassion, environmental responsibility, and proactive leadership in our students, preparing them for a future where they can create positive change within their community and beyond.”

Today's Engineers, Tomorrow's Leaders! Support Our Engineering & Tech Lab
Funded Sep 20, 2023The generous donations that funded our Engineering Lab project have made an indelible impact on the learning experiences of our students at PS 145 in Brooklyn, NY. The assortment of materials, ranging from building bricks and blocks to straw builders, play-doh, popsicle sticks, and tape, has created an environment brimming with creative possibilities. Our students are not merely learners; they have become problem solvers and community advocates. With the newly acquired resources, each class is engaged in dynamic design challenges, addressing real community needs identified by the students themselves.
One notable project involved designing and constructing bridges to tackle the issue of local flooding. Students enthusiastically applied their knowledge of engineering principles to develop effective solutions. Witnessing the initial reactions of our students when they first saw the abundance of materials was a priceless moment. Their eyes lit up with curiosity and excitement, and the classroom buzzed with the energy of eager learners ready to embark on hands-on exploration.
The impact of your contributions extends beyond a single project; it has become a catalyst for ongoing learning and innovation. Our next steps involve delving into a project focused on addressing vegetable waste from our school garden by designing plant carriers. Additionally, we're venturing into creating solar cookers to address the challenge of providing cooking solutions for community members without electricity or ovens. Your investment is not just in materials; it is an investment in the growth, inspiration, and STEMtastic potential of our students.”
With gratitude,
