Students Spread Kindness in Brooklyn School & Neighborhood Through Art!
Funded Oct 23, 2024Thank you for making this kindness project a reality! My students were thrilled to receive supplies for creating handmade cards, kindness rocks, bookmarks, and bracelets. The joy and creativity these resources have inspired are incredible. They're eagerly crafting heartfelt, uplifting items to share with friends, family, and the broader community. Through this project, they're learning that even small acts can make a big impact. Your support has empowered them to connect with others in ways that brighten their days and foster a sense of unity. We are truly grateful for your kindness!”

Funded Sep 22, 2024I cannot thank you enough for your support in providing essential hygiene products and snacks for our students at our all-girls public high school in Brooklyn. Your generosity has already made an enormous difference in the lives of these young women, many of whom face significant economic challenges. Through your kindness, we are able to provide critical hygiene items and nutritious snacks, supporting their well-being and creating a learning environment where students can truly focus on their education.
The impact was immediate and heartwarming. When students first saw the supply pantry, their responses ranged from quiet relief to visible joy. Knowing they can access items like pads, deodorant and snacks without needing to ask or worry about the cost has lifted a huge weight off their shoulders. One student mentioned that she often went without certain items at home because of the cost, and this pantry allows her to feel prepared and confident at school. Another shared that having access to lotion and deodorant means she doesn't feel self-conscious about her appearance or hygiene, which previously made her avoid socializing or even participating in certain activities.
With the snacks, I've already seen changes in their energy and focus during the school day. Students are less likely to feel sleepy or disengaged, especially in the afternoons when they often need a pick-me-up. The snacks have become an integral part of the classroom routine, helping students feel comfortable enough to focus on their assignments without being distracted by hunger. The difference in their engagement and alertness is so noticeable. Recently, during a group project, students could concentrate and work collaboratively for longer periods, as they had the option to grab a snack when they needed it.
Your support goes beyond simply providing supplies; it has helped create a sense of security, trust, and community in our school. Students know that they have a safe place to access what they need and that their well-being matters. This sense of care builds a supportive atmosphere where students feel valued, understood, and empowered to take their learning seriously. By addressing these basic needs, we're removing some of the barriers that can prevent students from fully engaging in school and are allowing them to focus on their personal growth and academic success.
Looking ahead, I'm excited to see how this project continues to impact my students' learning and well-being. We are also planning to organize health and wellness sessions, giving students insights into self-care and how to use these resources to maintain a healthy routine. With your help, we're not just filling immediate needs; we're helping them build lifelong habits and providing them with the stability they need to succeed academically and personally.”

Funded Sep 2, 2024I am thrilled to share the impact of your donation with you! Thanks to your generosity, my students now have tools to help them stay focused and comfortable in class and new equipment to look forward to using in our pickleball club this spring. Your support has brought so much excitement and a deeper level of engagement to my classroom, and I am incredibly grateful.
When the fidget bands first arrived, my students were immediately curious. They eagerly helped attach them to their chairs, and their faces lit up as they tested out the bands. I noticed a change almost instantly. Students who usually struggled to stay still during longer lessons now have a simple, effective outlet for their energy. For example, one student with a lot of nervous energy now quietly uses the fidget band instead of tapping his pencil, making it easier for both him and his classmates to focus. These small changes are making a huge difference in the flow of our lessons, creating a classroom environment that is more conducive to learning for everyone.
The pickleball equipment has also created a buzz of anticipation, especially among my students in the pickleball club. Even though we won't be able to use the equipment until spring due to limited space availability in the Fall, my students are eager to join. For many of my students, this will be their first time learning and playing pickleball, and having this equipment allows me to create a more inclusive, engaging after-school club. I can already see how this activity will help students build not only their physical skills but also their teamwork and resilience as they learn a new sport together.
In class, we're now using the fidget bands as an additional support for activities where concentration is key. For example, during a recent discussion on shades of meaning in words, students used the bands to keep their hands occupied and minds focused, allowing for richer conversations and better retention of the material. The bands help students channel their energy in a way that actually strengthens their learning experience.
As we move forward, I'm excited to incorporate the fidget bands into group projects and longer individual assignments, where maintaining focus is essential. In the spring, the pickleball club will kick off with lessons on teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship, which will complement our classroom learning and help students develop a stronger sense of community and mutual support.
Thank you once again for your generosity and belief in my students. Your support has made a tangible, positive difference, and I know my students will carry these experiences with them long after they leave my classroom.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Fatima
