Help Us Track Our Goals

Funded Dec 25, 2022

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your acts of kindness to help the students of AD Harrington Elementary School. Your donations are another stepping stone to assist myself and others in the everlasting journey as an educator. Without the support of donors, it is a challenge to attain the necessary tools to create a nurturing learning environment. When I learned that my project was funded, I felt an overwhelming feeling of joy inside. It was so crazy but, in that moment, I felt really supported; that I really was not alone in this thing called teaching. Although I receive an enormous amount of support from administration and colleagues, to have this generosity shared from virtual strangers was an awesome feeling! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

All of the items that we received were desired in order to be used in many ways throughout the school day. The colorful markers had a dual purpose; used for recreation/brain breaks and instructional tasks. Our scholars are allowed to use the markers to complete various coloring projects associated with various subjects within the curriculum. More specifically they were recently used for math tasks, a study into the origin and purpose of various face masks, and also to decorate presentation boards for the black history month celebration. The markers are also used during instruction to complete independent and whole group assignments. They will continue to be a useful asset in the classroom. Scholars enjoy the opportunity to be creative while learning and it serves as a motivator to engage them in class participation and learning. In addition, the work completed lends to a much more colorful classroom environment; highlighting stellar student work. The children always appreciate the opportunity to think outside of the box.

Data collection is the root of improving instruction and now in the forefront of education across this nation. We are teaching our scholars the value of reviewing and understanding data as means to creating overall academic success. The binders are being used to collect and portfolio scholar artifacts, to organize progress monitoring reports, and to catalog data collection. The binders create a safe space for scholars to share, understand, and identify personal strengths and weaknesses. This has been a great tool to engage students in great conversations about data and their overall progress as Harrington scholars. In addition, the binders are a useful tool to share at report card conferences, IEP meetings, and to house and organize school wide professional development collaborations. In addition, the scholars were able to organize binders for themselves to create portfolios of their most cherished artifacts throughout the school year. They are a snap shot of overall progression for the 2022-2023 school year.

It is always my goal to challenge students; awakening in them an excitement to learn! For this I am forever grateful for the things that I received!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Jacobs
