A Journey with Books!

Funded Oct 2, 2023

These books were donated to a title one school where fiction books are limited to the library unless they are gifted by donors like you. I teach middle school special education, sixth grade and eighth grade English. I crafted this project to be able to provide books to students so they could fall in love with reading. Students begin their day in my class with ten to fifteen minutes of reading. The reading allows my students to come in, get settled and calm down for learning. A lot of my students come from disadvantaged homes and look forward to the various books transporting them to lands and on new adventures.

I reserved half for the classroom library and the other half, to give away to students as they earn them. Students can earn the books by improved behavior and or by simply asking for them. My reading academic lab class in particular really are enjoying the books. This group of students have the option in small group rotation to read for twenty minutes and it is always a race to the bookshelf! The kids and I are so thankful for your thoughtful contribution to our class library and my students' futures!”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Dennis
