Funded Jan 17, 2023Thank you so much for supporting my students! You really helped expand our lessons with your donation. During black history month, this year, we learned a lot about loving ourselves and how different is beautiful. We read many books like The Color of Us by Henry Holt, Hair Love by Matthew A. Cherry, "I Love My Hair!" by Natasha Anastasia Tarrley, and I Like Myself! by Karen Beaumon. We talked about the many things that make us unique and one of the things we discussed was how we have diverse hair styles. From that discussion and the children's love of hair; We keep our lesson going by introducing our mannequins and hair supplies to our dramatic play area. The excitement, of the children, when we put the new supplies out, was priceless! They enjoyed exploring the different hair textures and trying different styles of each mannequin. They did updo's with butterfly clips and curls, and braids (but not very well). They pretend to wash and blow dry the mannequins hair, as well as their own and each others. Lol! Their imagination's where boundless and they developed their cooperative play skills. To finish our self love lesson, we made self-portraits. We used everything we had learned, to make beautiful self expression piece out of paper and other materials! We want to say again a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who donated, because of you all this was possible. Thank You!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Tanisha
