Engagement Tools for Counseling Small Groups
Funded Nov 29, 2022The new supplies and cart for small groups have been a game changer this school year! I had the opportunity to host an intern this year, and between the two of us we are always moving our groups on the cart to various locations around school. The fresh, new supplies has made it easy to facilitate activities, games, and art for the variety of group topics we have been covering.
One fun story from using the Jenga game that was purchased through this DonorsChoose is from my small group with 4th and 5th graders. We are working on self-regulation skills in this small group, so Jenga is the perfect game to practice moving slow and thinking before acting. The students were enjoying the game so much that they asked if they could stay in from lunch to keep playing! I let them stay a few extra minutes, then told them they had to go eat :)
I appreciate your support, it truly has made my day to day much easier!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Chalmers
This classroom project was brought to life by an Anonymous Classroom Supporter and 3 other donors.Learning and Growing Social-Emotional Skills
Funded Nov 18, 2022With your donations, I have been able to purchase so many engaging and helpful resources from Teachers Pay Teachers! Having these new resources to pull from when working with students one on one or in small groups has made planning and preparing for each school day a lot easier.
One example of a resource that has quickly become a favorite is the "body clues" activity. After we talk about how different feelings feel in our bodies, students complete a worksheet identifying body clues for different feelings in their own bodies. The worksheet helps students reflect on the sensations that they can be aware of in their bodies, and then be able to make smart decisions about how to manage those tricky bigger feelings like anger, sadness, or frustration.
Thank you for your support, and I am excited to continue finding more resources for my students!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Chalmers
