Fraction Exploration
Funded Nov 28, 2023Your contribution to our classroom has been a game changer for us. Students have been using the dice to play fraction games by adding and subtracting fractions. This has made learning fun! We have been using the fraction strips a few times a week for the same concepts and lessons. While adding fractions above I a heard a few students say, "Ohhhhhh, I get it now."
These materials give students a visual of how fractions look, and how fractions can be added and subtracted. We are going to use this for lessons later. Such as, multiplying fractions, comparing fractions, and equivalent fractions. Thank you again for your support!”

Funded Aug 7, 2023Thank you everyone for donating The Tale of Despereaux books to our class. The students on my class are very fortunate to have your support.
We will be using this book to do the following. Analyze characters and what their traits are. Point of view in the story, and perspective from different characters. There is a lot of figurative language in this book, so students will be identifying similes, metaphors, and hyperboles. We will be using this book to do an author study. We already read two other books by Kate DiCamillo. The Tiger Rising, and some students read Because of Winn Dixie. We will be studying Kate DiCamillo's craft, writing style, and structure.
This book is enriched with language and character development. It also contains opportunity to study theme, symbolism, and explore highly cognitive questions.
Everyday we are reading this book together. I do most of the reading, so students can do the thinking. During reading they are tasked with stopping to answer questions, discuss questions, or do an activity. After reading we do a short response question where I give them three prompts to choose from. They are all at different levels. The prompts are labeled: HARD, HARDER, and HARDEST. Somtimes they make short Flipgrid clips to answer these questions (Flipgrid is like making a youtube short, but private to our class only).
Here are some of the activities or projects we are doings. We are going to write a story as one of the characters, and rewrite how we would have the story change. We will analyze lgood vs evil in the book. Students will make their own part of the castle, and design it the way they see it. They will make their own unlikely hero. Last, students will act out their favorite part of the book.”
