• Projector for Classroom

  I am so excited for this projector! My students will definitely benefit, we often watch series and fill out worksheets for their assignments. As I get to know the different freshman teachers I have been able to help their students catch up in there classes more efficiently each week that goes by.”

• Projector for Classroom + Healthy Snacks for Tutoring

  We use the classroom projector almost every day. We play the morning announcements which I go over and engage students with questions and learn about what they are participating in on campus. I think it's important for students in suspension to still have access to the events going on on campus, in a way they may be the ones that need it the most. I also read through emails sent out by admin and often those emails focus on socio-emotional learning. I have them read whenever possible as well. The snacks are already used up, but they were great rewards for when assignments were completed.”

• Walking Machine for In-School Suspension

  My students and I use the walking machine for exercise daily. They often miss PE so the make up session is walking one mile on the treadmill, one minute of jumping jacks, 15 minute yoga/stretch video, as many push ups as they can, and thirty sit ups. I also have noticed that they ask to walk on it independently as well. I model health and wellness in the classroom by using the walking machine as we review the morning announcements and daily video that Mr. Stressman sends out. We use the projector daily to stream these videos.”

• Healthy Snacks as a Reward for Completing Assignments

  Thank you so much for supporting this project! My co-worker and I are so excited to have snacks replenished in the room, and I am super happy to start bringing in the excess bananas we have from our trees and drying them to make additional snacks available in the classroom.”

• Attendance Matters!

  My students used their white boards every class for speaking exercises. It really was such a great tool because we were able to correct quickly grammar/tenses so that they could speak with their partners in their best possible English.

  As for the snacks, it really made my class more fun, and once we started the new hero points program they were able to redeem their points for being on time to class, or staying on task. My students were really excited for the snacks and I hope to put in another project next year.”

• Expository Writing, Not on a Cell Phone

  I wanted to come on here and give an extra thank you for the Ipads donated to my classroom. My six classes use them every day. There is a system problem at my school, we gave them devices to take home during COVID, but the program was not monitored and implemented well. Because our students come from more tightly crowded homes, with a collective cultural tendency, their devices were seen as group/family devices and many have to lend them out to relatives or lost/broke them altogether.

  I hope my school can fix this by installing carts in our school that we as teachers can be in charge of. I also have heard that there will be a center opening up where students can have a separate place to go to and do homework because often there is not enough space at home or they are pressured to help in other ways around the house once they get home. But for now, getting students off of phones and onto devices that work with the online program I use (Freckle) is making a HUGE difference.”
