Turning Storytellers Into Authors

My students and I are using the materials to create books, featuring my students' stories. Some students decided to write fiction stories, while others chose to write about true things from their lives. Some students are only using words, while others chose to use a combination of words and artwork. My students are still working on their books, so I've included pictures of their works in progress.

When I told my students that they would have the opportunity to create their own books, I got mixed reactions. Some students were hesitant, because they were unsure of what kind of books they would make. Other students, especially those who love art, were ecstatic.

It's been exciting and a pleasure to watch my students create and share their work. I've been able to discover which students love writing, which students are indifferent but willing to try, and which students have a lot to say and just need guidance. Creating the books using the materials provided by your generous donations has not only allowed my students to express themselves. It has also allowed me to learn so much from our future authors.”
