  • Green Energy for a Clean World

    Funded Oct 15, 2024

Bringing solar-powered cars, wind turbines, and water filtering kits into the classroom offers a fantastic opportunity to introduce my students to the exciting world of renewable energy. These hands-on activities has helped to transform abstract concepts like solar and wind power into tangible, understandable experiences. By building and experimenting with these kits, my students learned fundamental principles behind how these energy sources work and how they can be used to power our lives. More importantly, these activities foster a sense of environmental responsibility and empower my students to think critically about sustainable solutions.”

  • Building a Math Thinking Classroom

    Funded May 6, 2024

Creating a math-thinking classroom centered around student engagement and critical thinking is a powerful goal. By fostering a student-focused environment, I hope to unlock hidden potential and reshape the way students perceive and approach mathematics. The concept of "team math" helps my students build self-confidence, critical thinking skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with each other. Utilizing everyday materials like Jenga blocks and dice in creative ways has transformed learning into exciting adventures, while games like MathSwatters has made addition and subtraction engaging and fun. Ultimately, the aim of creating a student-focused math class is to empower my students to take ownership of their learning journey and develop the confidence required to tackle even the most complex mathematical challenges.”

  • Bring Color to Our Class Projects!

    Funded Mar 3, 2023

By incorporating STEM challenges into my teaching, I provided my students with exciting and enjoyable learning experiences. These challenges allow them to embrace their roles as inventors, engineers, and creators.

Thanks to your gracious donation of an Epson color printer, I now have the capability to print STEM materials and projects in vibrant color. Additionally, being able to laminate these materials ensures they will withstand the test of time and benefit future first-grade students as well. By printing our projects in color, I also provide families with cherished memories of their child's accomplishments.

Furthermore, the inclusion of watercolor paints enriches our art period and allows all students to express their creativity.

The unfortunate circumstances surrounding COVID-19 have caused a disconnect between schools and families. However, I am hopeful that by sharing our projects and photos with families, we can spark meaningful conversations about learning between parents and children.

Thank you again for your generous donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Travalino

  • Imagine! Plan! Create!

    Funded Nov 10, 2022

Your generous donation provided my students with hands-on learning experiences that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. The use of building materials such as magnetic blocks, interlocking blocks, and marble runs allows my students to explore engineering principles and develop their creativity.

Building 3D structures with magnetic blocks helped my students understand the concepts of geometry and spatial relationships. Creating shapes and figures with interlocking blocks enhances their fine motor skills and aids in their understanding of patterns and symmetry.

The marble run activity encourages students to think critically as they plan and construct their mazes. They learn about gravity, momentum, and case and effects as they test different designs. Through collaboration and teamwork, students learn to communicate their ideas, listen to others, and work together towards a common goal.

Providing my students with these STEM building materials and a dedicated STEM period helps to foster a love for science, technology, engineering, and math.

Thank You again for your generous donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Travalino
