Funded Nov 7, 2022I have used our new bean bag chair for my classrooms calm down area. The bean bag chair is in the front corner of my room. Students show me the signal we've created to show that they need time for themselves. Students can take their iPads to the chair and work on a program or use one of our calm down tools while a timer shows them how long they have in the calm down area. Students use our purple cushions during whole group reading and math, students answer trivia questions to earn a cushion during that time. I also use the cushion for my student who has ADHD and Autism.
The boxes were dropped off to my room, I kept the boxes covered in a corner of the room. My students kept asking what was in the boxes.
When I unboxed everything and showed my students, The first thing they saw were the purple cushions and the immediate reaction was "Those are ours to keep?" They were really happy about the cushions because they say our classroom floors are hard. My gifted students were excited about our new book about planets and the solar system. My female students were excited about our books because they like to read books to me.
We will be using our new book "Separate is Never Equal" for a book study where students will compare and contrast books written by the same author. My students have previously read Duncan Tonatiuh "Dear Primo", I will use the two books as the focus of our study where students will focus on identifying the themes of book books written by this author and students will go on text and graphic feature scavenger hunt after working on the compare and contrast theme focus. Thank you to everyone who donated to the comfort and advancement of my students.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Winbush
