  • Essentials for Ms Siena's Cultural Arts Classroom

    Funded Oct 23, 2024

Miigwech (thank you) for funding this project.

My students were so excited when I brought out the new srt caddies for each table, which held all the new crayons, markers, glue and more, needed for class projects (they thought it was real cool that it spun around).

It is also nice to have cleaning supplies so students are able to be responsible for their party of the table (and the Mrs. Meyers lemon verbena cleaner works wonders on spilled, dried glue). I have some kiddos that love to wipe down the counters.

I try very hard to come up with new and different projects for my students and this support is very much appreciated. Miigwech.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Siena

  • Creating Animals Through 3D Art!

    Funded Aug 15, 2024

Chi miigwech for the clay, the clay tools and the various glazes. My students love working with their hands and creating with clay makes them so happy.

The awe on their faces when their finished ceramic creations come out of the kiln is so inspiring. The kids were so excited and asked when we will work with clay again.

My prek and kindergarten made pinch pots, the 1st and 2nd graders turned their pinch pots into an animal and my older students were able to create a freeform grandfather animal (wolf, bear, beaver, bison, eagle, turtle or sabe.)

Seriously, they don't get enough. I think they would be happy if we did this all the time!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Siena

  • Learning Ojibwe Language Through Play and Art

    Funded Aug 7, 2024

Miigwech (thank you) for funding this project. My younger students are using the play-doh to practice spelling their names (by rolling, pressing, manipulating the dough). I also have mats with faces so they can create how they are feeling. Aaniin ezhi-ayaayan asks, how are you? in Ojibwe.

My kiddos were so excited to see new materials. Their newest favorite are the the Nick Knack's interlocking linking Jax ( these are new to them, so exciting!) My older students are also LOVING the play food and community play people. These are a great way to add more Ojibwe language into our lessons.”

  • Indigenous Culture Through Art

    Funded Nov 14, 2022

My students enjoy using the Crayola light boards purchased for our class. Fourth and fifth graders are now using them for various projects. Students just wrapped up a unit about bison on the prairie along with the teaching of respect which is represented by the bison.

We just began a new project where we will be creating our own mandalas. We are learning about traditional Native American foods and will use these foods as our images while learning about symmetry and creating symmetrical mandalas.

Miigwech (Anishinabe for thank you) for all your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Siena
