Creative Youth Fashion Designers need Materials!
Funded Oct 14, 2022Thank you so much for your support on this project. My students were so excited to work on hands-on projects with the materials you allowed us to purchase. Students were thrilled to choose fabric to make pants out of. Students also enjoyed taking their ideas from drawings to printing on t-shirts they could wear. Along with practicing sewing and design skills, students practiced lifelong skills such as collaboration, planning, patience, and persistence with new/challenging activities. One student even spent extra time at lunch sewing so that he could finish his pants in time for pajama day. He was recognized by the principal in front of the whole school - it was awesome to see his accomplished smile. The impact on students was clear. I saw them focused on projects, problem-solving, and taking ownership of what they were creating. We got to display our work in a winter arts showcase and students were very proud. This was a fun and rewarding experience for me as an educator. I am now teaching the second iteration of this class for a new group of students this semester. I have been learning along with students and trying to incorporate their interests and ideas as much as possible. Seeing students experimenting with materials and creating has been such a joy. This would not be possible without your support.”
