Making Mathematicians That Are Able To Show Their Thinking

Funded Dec 6, 2022

I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am for your donation to my project. I am committed to providing students with daily, meaningful, engaging lessons that develop lifelong skills, and help them show how they are growing as mathematicians. I'm happy and excited to see that others share my vision for helping students grow as mathematicians.

The tools that you have funded enable students to engage in problem solving deeply connected to their communities and their lives through math. With the dry erase markers they write on their Write and Wipe pockets to show how they got their answers as mathematicians when solving community related math word problems. They are able to make their thinking visible in an easy way.

They also use the same dry erase markers and dry erasers to show the work they do with the Roll and Solve kit. Oh, the fun they're having making their thinking visible! The Multiplying Fractions kit has come so handy. That's one of the areas students usually have problems showing their thinking. But these kits not only make it easier for them to see the work that they are trying to do, but also make their work visible to other students and teachers. We're all enjoying using the fraction kits. I often hear, "That's what you meant. . . Ms. F. come and look at my work". Tell their math small group," Look at my work and give me your feedback."

Also, the donated timer keeps all of us on track and don't let us get too far from the allotted time for each task. The students enjoy so much making their thinking visible that it's easy to lose track of time.

Students are also using the magnetic board to lead their small group. And use the Place Value Chart when they are leading their small group. They know exactly what they are doing but at times find it hard to show their thinking. These tools make it easy for them to do so.

Students are incredibly excited and daily looking forward to making their thinking visible in math class. Your donation is helping them achieve what would have been hard for them to do otherwise.

Thank you once again for your generosity.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Faust
