  • Operation laminate

    Funded Dec 28, 2022

Gratias vobis agimus! Your generosity has been so appreciated during this school year. In the pictures attached, you'll find images of our classroom. Your donation has made it possible for us to have materials that we have been constantly using during this school year. The laminating machine has been a wonderful addition, as we have used it to create feelings posters for our "quid agis" bulletin board. Each student pair was in charge of finding a Latin feeling and emoji that matches. We utilize these laminated cards in our feelings check in. The laminator will be used at the end of the year to laminate the mythology books the Greco-Roman mythology class is completing.

The parts of speech posters have been a hot topic in my class since I hung them up. Many students have jokingly compared our classroom to an elementary school thanks to the posters, but during our tests and informal assessments I have caught them turning around to look at them. They know that if we're discussing Latin grammar, that they have these posters here to help them review what they already know.

They especially love to use the bins that are hanging at the front of the room. The bins were essentially for worksheets that were giving out in class in case they missed a day, but have grown to be a sort of holding area for their worksheets that they don't want to lose.

Although it is blank in the photo taken, the magnetic writing page has been our go-to place for word walls when learning new chapters to our reminder board for any important dates coming up.

These materials truly have been a helping hand for our classroom. Having them has led us to wonderful discussions about Latin grammar, English grammar, and adjective agreement. The laminator is a wonderful tool that the students keep asking to use, whether its for a project in class, to safeguard one of their projects, or to use for another class.

It is with the your generosity that I can give students resources they need to accomplish performance tasks, or to understand difficult language topics. Thank you so much for helping to create an even better space for my children.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ibrahim

  • When in Rome

    Funded Dec 6, 2022

I want to say thank you again for your donations to our classroom. These materials have been the talk of the town since I displayed them in my room. I had requested the busts of Julius Caesar and the goddess Minerva, because I wanted my students to be inquisitive and ask about things that they see. Also, I wanted to utilize them in an upcoming project in which they work collaboratively with the art teacher to recreate busts of important Roman mythological characters and people. This project is not completed, but I do have one student's work that I will be uploading for you to see!

Once the flags went up, with the help of some of my kids in first period, they were a main attraction in the room. That first day, I had to stop my lessons every class because my kids were excited to see their flag posted in the room. We even went through all the flags, seeing who can name the most countries, and then it turned into a game of capitals, and then we even extended it to look up more flags of different countries. The students weren't the only ones who loved the addition of the flags, I had many colleagues tell me how they loved that we have the flags in the room.

Just like the flags, the busts were a big deal in the classroom. My kids were constantly pointing them out, asking me who they were, why they are important to the classroom. I have one student who loves to move the statues to face a certain direction while they take exams, so that everyone knows "Minerva the goddess of wisdom is always watching out for cheaters."

These materials served to be more than just decoration, they helped to enrich lessons, open discussion about topics, and made them feel connected to the classroom.

I am deeply grateful for your generosity, as it has brought tons of smiles to the faces of my wonderful children.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ibrahim
