  Thank you so much for your generosity! Now more of our runners have access to watches with a stopwatch function. They can use it for speed training to meet their goal split times. As a result, they will improve at a faster rate as runners and hopefully run personal bests for the mile at the end of the school year!”

• Watch Me Run!

  Thank you for your generosity! Watches with a stopwatch function are extremely essential for running. What we do is set specific splits for students to meet during their speed training sessions. Every student has a split based on their previous mile time.

  Some of our runners don't have watches to use for speed training. Some of our runners have to use their phones to record their times, and it is very cumbersome because some of their phones are heavy and they have to carry them in their little hands.

• Photo Finish!

  Thank you so much for your generosity! We really needed the materials, such as the memory card. We try to take as much photos of our runners as we can because we love capturing moments at races. Without them, we can only rely on our memory. The kids like to see pictures of themselves running, and many like to make one of them their profile picture. It's something that they're really proud of. It's difficult to take certain photos with a phone camera, and a more professional camera allows me to take pics of our runners from far away.

• May I Please Have Some Water?

  Thank you for your generosity! Some of our runners can't afford nice water bottles, and the ones you donated for are really of good quality! They're Nalgene water bottles that are open-mouthed, which is great because you're much less likely to spill the water and you can quickly drink it in the middle of a workout since it's harder to spill the water. They're also rugged, hard to break or dent, and BPA-free. They're really great-quality bottles. Just the design itself doesn't allow for mold to form.

• Got Water?

  Thank you so much for your generosity! We really needed the water bottles. For some of our runners, it's really difficult to get one. The Nalgene-brand ones are really great because they are narrow-mouthed, which makes it easier to drink from without spilling. It's also very rugged, durable, and GPA-free. It's a good size at 32 ounces, which is just the right amount for when our runners do a long run. The water bottles are especially useful during the fall and winter months when the NYC parks public water fountains are closed.

• Getting Pumped Up with Headbands!

  We're always looking for ways to increase the positive vibes of our team and headbands is one of them. Everyone at races always have the same team shirt, but it's always cool when runners wear matching headbands, socks, ribbons, etc.

  Our runners who do wear the headbands enjoy wearing them. The first time they wore them was at a rainy race, so the conditions weren't ideal because the headbands got soaked. However, it has worked particularly well at our track & field events, especially for the relay races!

• Buckle Up Our Runners!

  Thank you for your generosity! This past June, we held our end-of-year celebration party and we had a variety of prizes to choose from for our award-winners! One such prize was the fanny packs.

  Several of our runners chose that as their prize. These are super helpful for when they run on their own. The fanny packs can hold their keys, phone, and other things such as a little money or a bus pass. It's a better option than running while clutching their belongings or leaving them unattended at the park where there's a chance of it getting stolen.

• May We Please Have Some Water?

  Thank you for the hydration packs! This past June, we were able to have a variety of prizes for our runners to choose from at our end-of-year celebration party. The hydration packs were among the selection of prizes.

  One of our runners who chose the hydration pack is one of our most dedicated runners! He started with a mile time of over 10:00 and recently ran a mile in 6:05. He runs many miles on his own in addition to the miles he runs at practices. The hydration pack has helped him while he was running over the summer.

• May I Please Have Some Water?

  Thank you so much for your generosity! We were able to give out water bottles to many of our runners and it's promoting the healthy habit of drinking water throughout the school day, as well as during practice.

  This year, our school installed bottle filler water fountains. That is good timing for us as our runners can easily fill up their water bottles during the school day. As the we run into the winter months, the two public parks that we primarily practice at have closed their water fountains for the season. Having a water bottle during this time is especially important!
