  • Convenient and Comfortable Computer Use

    The laptop charging cart has been a welcomed addition to our class! It comfortably holds all of our students' laptops and allows us to transition much more easily between activities. (It also takes up much less space than the bulky cart we had before this one.)

    Also, the accessibility of the cart allows the students to handle the laptops themselves with minimal assistance from the teachers. They can hand them out and also collect them and put them away to charge. The students who have taken on that job have felt much pride with the responsibility that comes with being one of the "tech people."

  • Students Benefit From Stem!

    The students have thoroughly enjoyed their subscription to Scholastic SuperSTEM Magazine. (We've received three issues thus far.) After they were exposed to the first issue, they couldn't wait to get their hands on the next two. In fact, many students were actively asking me when the next issue was being delivered.

    It truly is such a terrific magazine. The text is at the appropriate reading level and the graphics and images that accompany each article are vivid and rich and add so much to each article. The students have devoured the material within each issue. Also, the topics in the magazine have bolstered the work that the students are doing in the math and science content areas.”

  • Multiplication Facts Make for Math Success!

    The multiplication fact flash cards that the students received have been an unbelievable aid to their overall math work. When the two classes received the cards, each student was excited that they were getting their very own set and appreciated the fact that they were donated by people through Donors Choose.

    As far as the students putting them to use, at various points throughout the day, they take out the cards (conveniently held together as a unit by the ring that's provided) and practice their multiplication facts. We determined that a goal to strive to achieve is to try to recite the facts faster than a partner can flip/turn the cards. It led to some friendly competition between the students.

    The practice they've had has absolutely improved their math fact fluency, which in turn, allows them to focus their thoughts and energy on the ideas behind more in-depth problems.

  • Math + Current Events = Real World Learning!

    The DynaMath subscription that you funded is very much appreciated by my students and me. Every time a new issue arrives they look forward to being able to read it -- whether it be a formal lesson or an article they read on their own.

    They particularly liked the Dec/Jan issue where we did a lesson on types of graphs and the students used the bar graph from the cover story to identify which animal has the most teeth. It turns out that a pig has the most teeth and many of the students were surprised by that! (I was, too!)

    Additionally, they read articles that helped them with decimal place value and rounding as well as articles that focused on sorting shapes and various geometric figures.

    The bottom line is that you helped math come alive as students were able to make connections between current events and mathematics.”
