Funded Nov 11, 2023Thank you so much for making it possible for our students to read this important text. Reading Barracoon allows our students to understand and explore a direly underrepresented perspective about slavery—by the former slave himself, consider the importance of oral history as a means of preserving multiple perspectives, and to explore the history and connections between West Africa and the United States. Though this text isn't commonly read in schools, it should be. Providing these books for our students allows them to bring humanity and a personal perspective to what they learn in their US History classes and emphasize the importance of interdisciplinary study.
Thank you for your generosity!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Pomietlarz
