Blossoming Builders
Funded Dec 7, 2023Working in a school with children can be a roller coaster. There are days when the students are a challenge and it takes all you have to push through the day with patience and a smile. There are also days (far and few between:) when the students are focused and ready to work.
But the moments that give teachers the strength to keep going is when you feel that you are making a difference in the student's lives. As an Occupational Therapist I focus on increasing my student's independence in the classroom. Giving them the chance to feel like a "big boy" or "big girl". Watching their face light up as when they realize that they can complete the worksheet on their own, or that they followed the steps correctly for the art project, or that they can take off their coat and unpack their backpack by themselves, makes every ounce of effort that you put in worth it.
Having supporters like you supporting us so we can have these golden moments, makes me even prouder to serve my students and makes my students feel like a million bucks. Thank you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Rachel

There are days when the students are a challenge and it takes all you have to push through the day with patience and a smile. There are also days (far and few between:) when the students are focused and ready to work. Little kids need little motivators to keep them going. With small sensory fidgets or colorful toys, my students are more motivated to work than ever.

Funded Sep 29, 2022There was a moment that I realized how much this project has helped my students thrive. One particular child has been a challenge for me this year. I have tried multiple times to engage and motivate this student with limited and scarce success.
One morning after I received my Donors Choose supplies, I bring this student into the classroom. He is immediately drawn to a colorful box with a spiral tower and balls on the box. He is excited and engaged in a way I have rarely seen him before. We spend some time playing with the toy and he really seems to be enjoying himself.
Me and the other therapists in my shared space use that specific Donors Choose sponsored item countless times throughout sessions to motivate our students as a reward and engage them on new levels. Lets just say it is a pretty popular classroom item and one of our student's favorite. Thanks for making this moment happen”
With gratitude,
Ms. Rachel
