  • Clay Vessels!

    Funded Dec 13, 2023

Long overdue, but wanted to say thank you again for your generous donations! Thanks to you students were able to design and create their own piece out of clay. First they researched a culture that has created clay pieces in the past. They learned the techniques that were used and looked at how their clay pieces were designed. Then students experimented with clay and learned how to pinch, coil, and roll a slab in order to build something out of clay. The next step was to use the practical construction skills they learned and combine this with the research they conducted in order to create their own unique design. After this, the only left to do was to build it! Students also learned about the process of using clay and firing it in the kiln.

Once the pieces came out of the kiln we used the glaze and brushes you helped to purchase to design the surface of the pieces and to give them color. Students were excited to use these materials! Then the clay pieces were fired once more and when they came out of the kiln they were the finished products you see in the images. Thanks to you, I was able to do this with over 100 students! Thanks again. You make a difference.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Grauke
