Environmental Club
Funded Jan 25, 2024My Environmental Club students where over the moon when they saw their new materials for our club! Some of the materials were used for nature journaling, this is when we walk around the school yard discovering and sketchiing the nature right here on our school campus. The journals are an important tool to make this happen. The students especially like the magnifiying bug catcher containers, measuring tapes, and refillable paintburshes. These items made all the 'noticing and wondering' even more engaging.
Some of the other items were fun on rainy days when we couldn't go outside, such as the Habitat kit and fossil examples.
The Club water bottles and stickers helped make it fun and helped make the students feel like they were part of a group. I gave the students an environmentally themed sticker every time they attended club. Students really enjoyed this and many decorated their water bottles with the stickers.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you very much for helping provide necessary, educational and fun supplies for our Environmental Club.”
With gratitude,

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 12 other donors.Nature Journaling
Funded Sep 29, 2022Thank you very much for donating the nature journals! The students love nature journaling around the school yard! They have become better observers, make better connections, ask better questions, and become more curious about the natural world around them.
With our journals, we walk around, find a spot to get quiet and observe, and record what we see in our journal. Some examples include: leaves, grass, flowers, bark, herons, robins, crows, changing seasons, trees changing with the seasons, clouds, ladybugs in all stages, and salmon in the classroom. We even took our nature journals when we released the salmon in the Mokelumne River. They were very excited to use the journals by the river.
This is an enthusiastic group of nature journalers and we all look forward to continue to use them in the future. They love their journals as, hopefully, you can see from the poster we made for you. I wanted to include more 'action shots', but alas did not see the Donor's Choose Parent Permission slip for photos until I was putting this thank you package together and at this point in the year difficult to obtain photo permission in time. What you would see are happy, relaxed, smilling children when they are sitting down, getting quiet, curious, and observant while documenting nature in their nature journals.
Thank you again for this kind gift! You have made an impact in the lives of children. :)”
