Circle Time Rug - The Heart Of The Classroom
Funded Oct 18, 2023The first day the new rug was laid out, the student immediately fell in love with it. They love saying the alphabet as they jump from one letter to another and practicing their color with the rectangles. They love how spacious it is during our circle time. I love that each child has their own space. We use the carpet space 95% of our classroom time during free choice time, circle time, small groups, literature, social-emotional group time, and rest time. We are so appreciative of this beautiful rug.”

This classroom project was brought to life by A Donor Who Loves Teachers and 3 other donors.Audiobook Equipment
Funded Jan 30, 2023Being four-years-old can sometimes be frustrating when you really want to look at a book, but do not know how to read. Sitting down with an adult is the most ideal way to read a book, but sometimes the adults have other students or tasks that are pulling their attention. Now that our classroom has a boombox, splitter, and enough headphones for a small group, students can independently enjoy an audio book with their friends or by themselves if they just need some alone time. It has been engaging for our students who are learning English for the first time as well as the native English speakers.
These students are so grateful to be able to choose what story they will listen to and share that experience with their friends. Thank you generous donors for making this a reality for our students.”

Sensory Garden Spring Seeds
Funded Apr 3, 2023From the very first interaction with the seeds and peat trays last school year to the harvesting last week, students have delighted in the growing of these plants. We planted and transplanted the seeds last spring with the provided materials. Just last week our curriculum's agenda was geared toward the five senses. The students grasped theses concepts in tangables ways in our Sensory Garden; for example they tasted the Nasturtium petals, smelled the Opal Basil, heard the Poppy seeds rattle in their pods, felt the hairy Marigold stems compared to the smooth Chives, and soaked in the beauty of the Zinnias.
Not only are students enjoying the plants, but also the insects that are now drawn to our playground. The project has truly deepened the students' and teachers' curiosity about these plants and their care. The students are learning to care and respect the life in our sensory garden, which is translating to caring and respecting each other and our spaces.
We look forward to seeing what seeds we can harvest from this year's crop, so we can do this all over again in the Spring. This would not have happened without generous people like you. Thank you for how you support teachers and students.”

This classroom project was brought to life by PNC Grow Up Great®.Vermicomposting (Worms Composting)
Funded Sep 26, 2022The day the composting worms arrived was a very exciting day at our school. The students were so eager to see them and use the tools. They were equally grossed out, curious, and mesmerized by the worms. They loved and were challenged putting on the gloves and using the hand trowels. It was good fine motor practice and problem solving skills. They were very cautious inserting the thermometer so there wouldn't be any worm casualties.
The kids love putting their watermelon rinds, banana peels, and other leftover fruit and veggies in the compost bin for the worms. They are initiating composting on their own! It is so amazing to have such a small impact in these four year old's future. With such small steps as teaching them how to care for the critters, the soil, and their world that will sustain them in their future.
We cannot wait to use the worm casting in the raised bed to help our plants in the spring. The hand trowels will be an important tool as we spread the black gold and mix it into the soil. We are so thankful for this opportunity.”
