Ukulele: The Gift of Song

Thank you so much for supporting the eighth-grade students in PS/IS 109! The first day they started ukulele in January, they were excited, thinking of songs they'd want to play after we learned the basics.

The eighth graders have been practicing ukulele three times a week learning chords like C and G. We recently had a quiz and all students passed with flying colors because of great hand positions and playing accuracy! We also have been playing simple songs utilizing the chords we already learned, where some students have volunteered to sing and play simultaneously to make the songs more lively.

In the future students look forward to creating their own songs or learning how to play a piece of their choice. This will allow them to exponentially grow in their musicianship and mastery of the instrument as they take charge of their own learning.
