  • Empower with Every Pose: Yoga Mats for Students

    Funded Jan 1, 2025

I cannot thank you enough for your donations! This school year has been like no other. Students have struggled in many ways and have faced unprecedented challenges. Having a health and wellness after school program, using yoga, movement, and social emotional reflection as an outlet for emotions has been a wonderful experience for my students.

They learned about being active, listening to your body, and being mindful of what our bodies and hearts need and want. These programs are only possible through the generosity of people like you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. G

  • Social Emotional Learning Through Literature

    Funded Nov 18, 2023

These books have been such an exciting part of our year. Each book discusses a variety of intense and emotionally charged terms. Books that explain and facilitate conversations around terms like racism, diversity, immigration, and more. In my class, we pair these books with a circle discussion and activity. Sometimes a writing reflection and other times identity maps or protest posters. It is empowering and inspiring to see students engaging with this type of text.

Although I read them to the class, I have student that will, weeks later, go to the library and take these books to reread. There is something so powerful about a book that can capture a students' attention so much, that they go back for more.

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our library. We love it!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. G

  • Supporting Small Groups

    Funded Nov 11, 2023

My students have been LOVING our small group stations. These small groups consist of explicit ELA skill instruction, shared reading experience, vocabulary practice, grammar reviews, and more!

Using the dry erase boards, clipboards, and sign holders, students are able to have small groups on the carpet and follow the directions for each station. These stations are students led and incredibly engaging. My 5th graders look forward to this period each day and the resources make it exciting!

We are so appreciative for your generosity. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

  • 5th Grade Needs a New Reading Rug!

    Funded Dec 31, 2022

We cannot thank you enough for your generous donation of a reading rug! My 5th graders love to sit on our new carpet to read books, create posters, conduct research, and so much more!

Our room is BEE themed, as we are the Bronx Little School Bees- our decor is black, white, and yellow. Our polka dot carpet fits in perfectly and would could not imagine our space without it. We work hard to keep it clean and new looking!

When I asked my students about the rug, one said "the polka dot one? That's my favorite one, because I get to decide which dot I want to sit on each day!" Another student said, "I love having the rug, cause than I don't have to sit in a hard chair all day!"

Again, we cannot thank you enough.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. G

  • Classroom Library

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

My 5th graders and I cannot thank you enough for funding our project and donating to our classroom. As a second-year teacher, right out of college, I have experienced the world with an understanding of how crucial it is so exposing our young people to social justice and the world around us. This includes representation in books, posters, videos, and any other classroom displays or curriculum. My school has worked hard to ensure our students feel represented in all these ways. We not only welcome diversity, but it is celebrated and looked at as a gift to our classroom.

We enjoyed reading the books donated about different Latinx figures during Hispanic Heritage Month and had some really meaningful discussion about the importance of studying these iconic figures. Many students felt a connection to them based on traditions, looks, and cultural norms mentioned. This is a priceless experience to engagement in the curriculum in this way. We will continue to search for and purchase books for our classroom library that are grounded in equality, diversity, social justice, inclusion, and different representations of people, families, and identities.

    Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. G
