Funded Sep 20, 2023Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom! The students and I have benefited so much from your kindness and we are eternally grateful for you.
My classroom is very diverse. 70% of my students are English Language Learners and speak a variety of languages including Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, and French Creole. With so many cultures, it is crucial to have a library just as diverse as the students. It is imperative that all students feel represented in the stories we are reading and can make connections to their own lives.
Being in a kindergarten through second grade classrooms for students with severe learning challenges, reading looks very different for every student. Something that is always the same, however, is our read aloud time. Students listen to the stories, engage in comprehension activities, and ask meaningful questions. Because of all of you, we have many amazing books that captivate students and promote learning.
For example, "The Proudest Blue" by Ibtihaj Muhammad was a book purchased through this project. The students were so excited about this story as they learned more about hijabs, kindness, and acceptance. It also sparked a great conversation with paraprofessionals who wear hijabs in our classroom!
Thank you all again for your generosity! It has already made such a positive impact on their learning, and has helped me be a more impactful teacher.”
With gratitude,
Ms. McCausland
This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 8 other donors.Sensory Friendly for a Sub-Separate Classroom!
Funded Sep 26, 2022Thank you SO much for your generous donations. Because of you, I am able to effectively teach using the tools you helped buy. My students are benefiting so much!
The wiggle cushion and wobble stool have been great for my students who require a lot of movement. This helps them concentrate and allows them to be more active participants.
The students absolutely loved the new books! Some of their favorites include "The Magical Yet" and "Sofia Valdez, Future Prez". This inspired different writing projects and activities which motivated students to consider their own personal goals and changes they would like to see in the community. They were critical thinkers and were thoughtful with their ideas on how to achieve these goals.
The kinetic sand, Play-Doh and Legos are used during choice and break time. This has helped improve student behavior by allowing them to use multi-sensory break tools. The math manipulatives have also made such a difference and helped build understanding with their math concepts.
All of your donations have already made a positive impact and will continue to inspire academic and social-emotional progress. I am so appreciative of your kindness! Thank you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. McCausland
